Thank you! 🙏🏼 Wonderful to see and hear your exquisite weaving of words from/of the heartland! 💖 Snow, cold, and the Aurora Borealis are crackling in the air and the woods at our place . . . the Top of the World in interior Alaska. Late April or early May is the usual arrival time for the white-fronted geese at our local Creamer's Field Migratory Wildlife Refuge. https://friendsofcreamersfield.org Wish them happy and healthy flights up to us! 🙏🏼
The Des Moines River trip was fantastic, Marcie! I still have fond memories of all the folks we met and paddled with. But that was 31 years ago, in 1994. My canoeing has slowed down considerably!
Now that I live in Colorado, my favorite season here is fall. But nothing touches an Iowa spring - my favorite season growing up. This post was a lovely reminder of home 🫶🏻

It would be fun to follow the white-fronts on their journey! Thanks for the note. Creamer's Field needs to go on our bucket list!
Thanks Larry, an excellent post today. We both had birds 🦢 on the brain today
What a repertoire those mockers have! We've enjoyed them in Florida and Texas, but we're too far north for them in NE Iowa.
Yep. NorCal is pretty special in the variety you see out there. Hope all is well with you up there.
Our best birds today were turkey vultures! Not very musical, tho . . .
Tons of TV’s in SF Bay Area.
Thanks, Larry, for alerting us to what we should be watching for. And for sharing your extensive knowledge. Bring on Spring!
Have enjoyed your report on the birds return and moving on.
Maybe it’s time for a do over down the west branch of the Des Moines, Larry?

Let us know when the bluebirds are back.
Our bluebirds never left this winter! We had as many as 6 drinking from our heated bird bath.
