Great column and photography, of course. Though I live in town, these days, early morning means going out with the dog and listening to early morning bird songs. I go outside accompanied by my cell phone and its Cornell Univ app which identifies the birds and provides information on the birds. The titmouse was a neighbor this week.

Our titmice started singing before the cardinals this winter. I usually hear the cardinal first.

As always, paying attention shows the wilds are full of life

Making me homesick, Larry. We don't have those birds here and we don't awake to their morning songs. I miss that.

Larry—Beautiful column and I learn a lot, too. Do you feed the deer? Thanks!

Thanks, Richard! Ah, feeding the deer can be quite controversial. NO, we do not! Feeding can congregate them and spread disease, such as CWD (chronic wasting disease), which is similar to mad cow disease and is gradually spreading in Iowa.
