So wonderful. And the baby hanging out of the box just knocks my sox off.

"I grabbed a lawn chair and sat about 50 feet from the box while the adults flew to and from a nearby tree, twittering and coaxing their young to take their first flight."

Yup. I could sit and watch that kind of show all day. Thanks for this story and those amazing photos!

My grandmother who was Native American always told me this anytime we took a walk or sat out in the yard; :”Always listen to the land, it will tell you everything you need to know.” Listen to the birds, the trees, and all other things put on the earth to lead the way.”

Just lovely. For some reason i never see them in my corner of Black Hawk County, but they certainly have to be here....

The return of our summertime birds is always a joy and source of discussion! We have no blue birds and the humming birds have yet to arrive, but early on we had six pairs of "Prairie Canaries" (Gold Finches) and lately we are entertaining and feeding at least two pairs of Orioles! I spotted a catbird yesterday, and even some odd sparrows with white lines across the top of their heads, always something to watch for even among the many sparrows, grackles, and doves. We have added a heated bird bath to the collection to keep those who stay over winter well watered especially when the open streams become choked with ice. Great piece of work you do!

These images are delightful - we only very occassionally saw bluebirds down our way - 100 miles south of chicago. They are the sweetest looking birds.
